Overview
There is an urgent need for novel point-of-care diagnostic tools to enable early diagnosis of mycoses. Talaromycosis is no different.
Talaromycosis diagnosis is still reliant on decades-old culture-based methods which can take up to 28 days to return a result and lacks sensitivity.
This is the most critical barrier to reducing mortality which approximately doubles from 24 to 50% when diagnosis is delayed and approaches 100% when missed.
