Biography
Assoc. Prof. Nguyễn Đức Lộc is Director of the SocialLife Research Institute. He is a social anthropologist who has worked for many years on informal labour, internal migration and the lives of marginalised groups in Vietnam. His research focuses on everyday lived experience: how knowledge is formed, held and passed on through people’s bodies and practices in the world they inhabit, rather than existing only as abstract propositions.
Across his work, he has consistently taken a methodological approach that centres the subjectivity and lived experience of the people being studied. He also works to build an epistemology rooted in local context, rather than passively adopting Euro-American theoretical frameworks.
