BIOGRAPHY

Dr Lottie Brown (BSc MSc MBChB) will join the team at TMRC for a 3-month research fellowship in talaromycosis starting in September 2024. Dr Brown is a NIHR-funded academic clinical fellow in infectious diseases and medical microbiology at the Institute for Infection and Immunity at St George’s University Hospital, London, UK. Her project will focus on evaluating the value of PCR in early disease screening and treatment monitoring for talaromycosis and draw on her expertise in fungal diagnostics and molecular techniques. She is currently leading three international working groups for the Fungal PCR Initiative (FPCRI, a working party of ISHAM) to develop global standards for the molecular diagnosis of Pneumocystis, Mucorales and Candida through systematic review and meta-analysis. She is also an invited member of a national guidelines group for fungal diagnostics, working on a panel of UK experts in mycology to devise the “British Society for Medical Mycology Best Practice recommendations for the diagnosis of serious fungal diseases”. Her passion for mycology and global health research have culminated several early career achievements including 12 peer-reviewed publications, with first-author papers in Lancet Infectious Diseases and Clinical Infectious Diseases, invited symposiums at international and national conferences, and several international and national oral and poster presentations. She has been awarded 10 national prizes related to her research and received several research grants up to the value of £10,000. Dr Brown hopes to pursue a clinical PhD fellowship in talaromycosis in 2026, in with supervision from researchers at the TMRC and St George’s University.
