On July 9, 2026, the TMRC team, in collaboration with Ward E of the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City, organized a training and technical discussion meeting for the doctors and nursing staff participating in the LAmB-FAST project. The training session aimed to ensure thorough preparation for the study’s rollout, guaranteeing that all implementation steps are standardized and aligned.

The research project titled “Liposomal Amphotericin B and Flucytosine Antifungal Strategy for Talaromycosis (LAmB-FAST)” is a phase 3 clinical trial aimed at evaluating the efficacy of a new antifungal treatment regimen for patients infected with Talaromyces marneffei (Tm). This multicenter collaborative project brings together Duke University (USA) and the TMRC research group from Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine (Vietnam), alongside participating hospitals across Vietnam and Thailand. The study’s findings will provide crucial, objective evidence to improve treatment outcomes for patients with Tm infections, delivering significant clinical as well as socioeconomic benefits.

As the leading site of the study, the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City (HTD) serves as the core hub, playing a decisive role in the success and accuracy of the entire research project. Therefore, on the afternoon of July 9, 2026, the TMRC research team and key personnel involved in the study’s rollout at Ward E – HTD held a training and in-depth discussion session to ensure that the implementation of research procedures at the hospital is both feasible and highly optimized.

During the meeting, the TMRC research team provided an overview of the rationale and objectives of the LAmB-FAST study. We also presented and discussed in detail with doctors and nursing staff in Ward E – HTD about the optimization of the study design, and the rollout of five core procedures: (1) Preliminary screening, (2) Participant recruitment, (3) Sample collection, storage, and paraclinical testing, (4) Case Report Form (CRF) completion, and (5) Adverse Events (AEs) management.

The training session took place in a serious yet highly engaging atmosphere, featuring numerous practical clinical and paraclinical questions from the healthcare staff, those who will directly diagnose, treat, and care for the patients. This thorough professional preparation provided team members with a clearer vision of their upcoming responsibilities, ensuring a smoother rollout at the HTD site. All implementation steps will strictly adhere to scientific and ethical principles in research, aiming to generate objective, high-quality evidence that will inform future treatment guidelines.

The TMRC team would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Board of Directors and all medical staff at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City for their tremendous support and full participation. Their high sense of responsibility reflects a deep commitment to patient care and the advancement of national medicine.
